Guest Post: Recognize "Don't Fry Day" by Following Sun Safe Tips

Disclosure: This is a guest post by Dr. Richard Bezozo, MD, president of Mole Safe. The information was given to me via e-mail, and no compensation was received.
This may be a day late, but it does apply to the season that we all are definitely headed into, with the Memorial Day holiday gone, and the children, if they haven't got out of school yet---will be getting out of school soon. (Son got out last week.)

Recognize “Don’t Fry Day” by Following Sun Safe Tips
By Richard Bezozo, M.D., President of MoleSafe
Millions of Americans are heading to beaches and warm-weather getaways this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day, seeking to dive toes deep into the sand as they celebrate the unofficial start of summer! However, Memorial Day Weekend is not always so bright. This weekend tends to be peoples’ initial contact with the sun since last season, hence the reason why so many get sunburned. To commence the highly anticipated Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 24, 2013, has been declared as “Don’t Fry Day,” by the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention, as an effort to encourage sun safety awareness.
This year alone, the American Cancer Society projects approximately 76,690 new melanomas, the most serious and deadliest form of skin cancer, to be diagnosed, giving us all the more reason to practice safe sun techniques to reduce your risk. In full support of “Don’t Fry Day,” to help you keep your skin healthy and enjoy being outdoors and avoid the painful start of the sunburn season, be sure to follow these simple tips below:
· Use sunscreen. Whether you’re at the beach or at a barbecue, always wear a broad-spectrum and water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Apply the sunscreen generously to all parts of your body 30 minutes before going outdoors, to allow it to absorb in your skin, and reapply it every 2 to 3 hours. Even if you aren’t so lucky to get sunny weather, if you are outdoors, be sure to apply sunscreen because approximately 50 – 80 percent of UV rays penetrate through the clouds.
· Limit exposure. Despite our desire to spend countless hours outdoors this weekend, it requires some risk-taking. Try to avoid the sun or minimize your time outdoors during the sun’s most powerful hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are outdoors, seek shade when possible.
· Cover your skin. Wear a hat, put on some wraparound UV-blocking sunglasses, and don’t forget to apply a lip balm that contains an SPF. Sun-protective clothing and bathing suits that contain an ultraviolet protective factor (UPF) are also a good idea to wear to enhance protection from the sun’s harmful rays, especially for lighter-skinned individuals who are more prone to sunburn.
· Treat your burns. If your skin does happen to burn from too much sun exposure, apply aloe or moisturizing cream to ease the discomfort and hydrate your skin and be sure to stay out of the sun to limit any further damage.
This “Don’t Fry Day” reminds people to be proactive in their skin health this weekend, and every day of the year. In addition to following these tips, it is important to note that the best way to detect skin cancer is to regularly check your skin and enroll in an early detection melanoma screening program, to monitor for changes in moles and for new skin growths and lesions. I encourage you to take the lead in your health and enjoy your Friday, without making it a “fry” day.

Okay, updating you all

I just sent a message to the Rafflecopter guys asking for advice! Not sure why you all aren't able to see it, I'm looking at it via safari, and see it fine, but I know that it's not the point. I'm recommending that you post comments on the giveaway post on the comment section below the post, and telling me what you've done with links. Hopefully, it will be up and working soon. I'm not sure what's going on, I'm not a computer geek by no means! And I will extend the giveaway by two more days!

Soft Scrub giveaway

Whoever tried to enter in the past two days, please try again! I had some issues with my back and left leg  Friday evening, and ended up in the ER that night. I went back and looked at the Rafflecopter, and re-embeded the giveaway twice now in the past 18 hours. Please go ahead and re-enter! Definitely e-mail me if there are any further problems.

NEW Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover Review and Giveaway (USA only, ends 5/31/13)

DISCLOSURE: The Soft Scrub brand provided me with a sample of their NEW Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover in exchange for a product review. However, all opinions expressed here are my own!
the after trio of pictures!

Soft Scrub is a brand that my family's used for years, and it's definitely been the bathroom cleaner of choice for us! I was excited to get the opportunity to clean my shower with the NEW Soft Scrub Mold & Mildew Stain Remover! I had originally planned to clean the shower on one of my days off last week prior to taking my FMLA leave, but I was beat and my fibromyalgia was getting the best of me. Steven's been at karate events the past few weeks prior to the end of school, and he had no time to do it until yesterday.

It makes surfaces happy, and it is a new, more gentle solution to Mold & Mildew Stains:
with NO harsh fumes or overspray, spray gel that clings to stains, and it cleans tile, grout, tubs, and showers! It's tough on stains and gentle on surfaces! Steve, Steven, and I all have asthma, so it's important to us for a product not to have harsh fumes. The  thick gel actually stuck to where Steven sprayed it, and it helped to remove the mold and mildew stains! (That made me happy!) Son actually did the cleaning this time, and he appeared in the pictures.  It did clean up mildew stains in the shower! We do have before and after pictures! I recommend it, and will be using it on the tub/shower combination this weekend (of course getting son to clean!)!
Arggh, this is before!

Michael Buble "To Be Loved" Album Review

Disclosure: I participated in this campaign for One2One Network. I received a free copy of the album to facilitate my review. By posting, I am  eligible for incentives. All opinions stated are my own.

What can I say, but everyone's favorite Canadian crooner is back again, finding his harmony while making his way through the American songbook (and looking oh-so dapper in a suit)!

"To Be Loved" out now, finds the Grammy winner covering songs by Frank Sinatra, the Bee Gees, Jackson 5, Elvis Presley, Van Morrison, and more. In the mix of golden standards are four original songs co-written by Buble, dipping into his personal life for inspiration.  I'm not sure whose song was "Come Dance With Me", I love the beat and lyrics to it, and if I hadn't had back surgery this week, I would have been dancing to it! "It's a Beautiful Day" is also a favorite of mine, maybe because it's the first song that I heard on the radio! I was surprised to hear Reese Witherspoon sing with Michael on "Something Stupid", she had a quiet voice, in my opinion.  Here's the links to Michael Buble's video "It's a Beautiful Day",  "You Make Me Feel So Young",  April 25- Performing in the NYC Subway !!
Those are 3 awesome videos! These are good times for the singer who is about to become a first-time dad. He sounds like a man in love with life. "I wrote Close Your Eyes about my wife and about the power of all the women in my life-- my sisters, my mom, my grandma and all women in general. Let's face it, where would we be without them? I Got It Easy, another original, is basically a song where I count my blessings and is a reminder to me and everyone to appreciate all the good parts of life. I'm a very lucky guy and I never want to forget it."

Here's a couple of links to buy Michael Buble's album:
iTunes and Amazon

To Be Loved Track Listing:
1. "You Make Me Feel So Young"
2. "It's A Beautiful Day"
3. "To Love Somebody"
4."Who's Lovin You"
5."Something Stupid" (featuring Reese Witherspoon)
6. "Come Dance With Me"
7."Close Your Eyes"
8. "After All" (featuring Bryan Adams)
9. "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" (with Naturally 7)
10."To Be Loved"
11. "You've Got A Friend In Me"
12. "Nevertheless (I'm in Love with You)" (featuring The Puppini Sisters)
13. "I Got It Easy"
14."Young At Heart"

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Congrats to Sandy, Claudia, and Kaitlin on the Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Toilet Care Giveaway!! You three have been e-mailed and now have 48 hours in which to get back to me! :O)

Today is my birthday!

Well, I kind of feel like I hit another milestone, though I probably hit it last year when I turned 50! Today was my 51st birthday, and I went to get my pre-op  paperwork and prescription for next week's surgery on Tuesday.  I have two more work days left till I go on leave for about 6 to 8 weeks for a discectomy. I was having such a fun morning, that I had to go straight from work to the doctor appointment, then head home for a quick shower and breakfast from Starbucks (not good for a low carb/ sugar free sort of diet!) and take care of the birds---before heading to Orlando for a Ford event. I got lost with the GPS, (ha!) and had issues with the compass directions from MapQuest, but got there about 9 minutes late! It goes to show that Orlando gets hard to navigate the less frequent you go into the downtown area, especially for me, and I had not been in that particular area in at least about 25.5 years---when my sister Karen and her husband Bruce got married in late '87! I ran into Adrianna, from MilSpouseBloggers, whom I had met at last year's CFLBlogCon in Orlando. It was nice to run into a familiar face! What an afternoon!
And oh BTW, yesterday was Steve's birthday! A shout out to my husband!

Rod Stewart's TIME Released Recently! (Review)

Disclosure: I was given a free CD via One2One Network in order to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed were my own!

Rod Stewart's "Time" was recently released on May 7th, and it marked Rod's return to his song-writing roots and his first album of new material in almost 20 years! "Time" was released by Capital Records and it has 12 tracks--- 11 of which Rod wrote and produced.   (Barb's note here: I heard "She Makes Me Happy" when I was at work last night! I smiled! I love his music!) You can watch a video on a montage of 7 of his original new songs which were filmed during the making of the album:
Rod on YouTube and at Rod Stewart. It's a great montage of the songs, and I'm sure that you'll enjoy it, too!   "She makes Me Happy" was the first song to be released on March 19th, followed by "Finest Woman"on April 8th. Presales of his new album started with digital retailers on April 8th.  Billboard proclaimed "Stewart rocks again."(Love it!)

His song-writing skills returned during the time that he was writing his autobiography "Rod". He was able to write about 7 to 8 of the songs pretty quickly. Said Stewart," Something about that process of reviewing my life for the book reconnected me and that was it: I was away. Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head. Next thing I knew, I had a song called 'It's Over' about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record, which had never happened before."
"TIME" track listing:
1. She Makes Me Happy
2. Can't Stop Me Now
3. It's Over
4. Brighton Beach
5. Beautiful Morning
6. Live The Life
7. Finest Woman
8. Time
9. Picture In A Frame
10. Sexual Religion
11. Make Love To Me Tonight
12. Pure Love

"Time" iTunes Deluxe Edition (Bonus Tracks)
1. Love Has No Pride
2. Corina Corina
3. Legless

Rod Stewart is set to go on the European leg of his Live the Life tour on June 1st, while American date with Steve Winwood will begin on October 17th.

You can purchase the new album at your local stores, and online with and iTunes.  I really enjoyed listening to "Time, it felt like I was listening to an old friend! The songs will get you tapping your fingers on the steering wheel and singing along, that is, if your are listening to him in your car! My favorites are" Can't Stop Me Now", Beautiful Morning", and  "Sexual Religion".

Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Toilet Care review and giveaway (3 winners, ends 5/16/13, US only)

Disclosure: The Soft Scrub brand provided me with a sample of Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Toilet Care in exchange for a product review. However, all of the opinions expressed here are my own!

Soft Scrub brand has come out with a new way of taking care of your toilet! What would you think if a toilet care product not only cleaned your toilet, but it prevented future buildup, fought toilet bowl ring, and was freshening your toilet up to 4 weeks? And, may I add, it costs less than $2.00!! I would say that it sounds like a great new product! It comes in two fragrances: Alpine Fresh--fragrance with bleach, and Sapphire Waters--fragrance without bleach. They provide long lasting cleaning and freshening thanks to the unique design and advanced formula.

I was given a sample of the Sapphire Waters, and I opted to put it in the hall bathroom, which Steve and Steven tend to use. It took me a bit to put the plastic hanger for the plastic cage on the rim of the toilet, since our toilet's water flow wasn't super visible!  I liked the fragrance! We've been using it for over 2 weeks now, and the toilet's still clean on the inside! It has definitely made my cleaning chores in the bathroom with the toilet a bit easier! The fragrance could have been a bit stronger, in my opinion, though. I am happy that the fragrance  and the clean toilet has made my guys happy!

Now onto the giveaway!

Merchbox (review)

Disclosure: I was given information about Merchbox from Big Picture Media, and I decided to join Merchbox, paying for it myself! Information was given to me by Big Picture Media, and pictures were taken of my own recently received products!

I recently subscribed to a unique kind of box subscription called Merchbox! With a quote from MTV Act: "Merchbox is like a rad care package from your musically inclined Mom."  I love that quote! I got curious, and decided to follow a link to see what came in a Merchbox:, where some people posted pictures on Tumblr of what they had received. Interesting! I figured "sure", and went through the process of ordering it. I received an e-mail from Mike Frankel, and he asked a few questions,  along the lines of naming 3 bands that I liked, my age, my birthday, and something else that I can't remember at the moment! And, I responded back to him with my answers. I received the Merchbox in the past week, and am still listening to the cds. I received two cds, a pack of paper soap leaves, mustache mints, and 2 discount cards. The music is interesting!

Here's some information for you about Merchbox: It is a new subscription service with a simple mission: to shine a light on new music through tangible delivery. Each month, the members receive a box tailored to their interests. To sign up go to: Merchbox , answer the questions that they e-mail you, and using a complex algorithm (their brains), the Merchbox team will send out a monthly package that is tailored to the subscriber's taste.

Merchbox was launched in early December by Mike Frankel as an experiment. "I missed having stuff. Although I appreciate the convenience of digital delivery, nothing beats the experience of tearing off the shrink wrap, taking in the artwork, and losing yourself in a full album," says Frankel. "Merchbox encourages you to think back to a time before everything you listened to was encoded in 0's and 1's."  Frankel's other gigs include helping Entourage actor Adrian Grenier run his Brooklyn-based recording studio,Wreckroom Records, and running his own MP3-giveaway blog, In their own way, all three projects aid Frankel's vision of bringing together budding musicians and new listeners by making their music widely accessible.

Dreamworks Animation's "The Croods" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Review)

Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to listen and download to the soundtrack in order to facilitate a review and the opinions expressed are my own!

"The Croods" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was released on March 19th by  Relativity Music Group, and it featured the original song "Shine Your Way" by Owl City and Yuna.( I happen to love that song, being a fan of Owl City, and it was my favorite song off of the soundtrack!) Here's a link to the video clip of the song over on Fuse TV: Shine Your Way.  It's an enthusiastic uplifting song, and Owl City and Malaysian singer Yuna are included in the animation in this video! ( Barb's piece of information here:Yuna's from Verve Records and Owl City's from Republic Records. ) The song was produced by Owl City along with two-time Academy Award nominated composer Alan Sylvestri and Glen Ballard who wrote the track with the film's directors Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. Sylvestri produced and composed the enter score of the soundtrack, which includes "Smash and Grab", and a sample of "Tusk" with the USC Trojan Marching Band.  The whole soundtrack is available on Itunes.

"The Croods"

"The Croods" movie was released on March 22nd, and was directed by Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders, and was produced by Kristine Belson and Jane Hartwell.  Nicholas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Cloris Leachman, Catherine Keener, and Clark Duke star in the animated movie.
The Croods tells the story of the world's first family road trip.  When their cave is destroyed, the Crood family must embark on a comedy adventure into strange and spectacular territory in search of a new home.  As if patriarch Grug (Nicolas Cage) didn't already have enough to handle, it goes from bad to worse when they encounter an imaginative nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds).  With Guy's help the Croods conquer their fear of the outside world and discover that they have exactly what it takes to survive - each other.
For more information on the movie, visit: and on Facebook and on twitter @ DWAnimation. This time, Steven didn't get the opportunity to listen to the music, so no opinions from him! We both enjoy soundtrack music! I enjoyed all of the songs!
Here's a list of the songs in the soundtrack, and all of the songs are enjoyable to listen to!
