Mat Kearney "Young Love" CD Review

Mat Kearney's latest cd, "Young Love" hits the stores recently, and definitely is a "you've-got-to-buy"!! It debuted on the number 1 spot on iTunes on the Albums and Rock chart recently.   Some of his past songs have been played on Grey's Anatomy, 30 Rock, Scrubs, NCIS, to name a few shows!

 Young Love Tracklisting
1 Hey Mama2 Ships In The Night
3 Count On Me

4 Sooner Or Later

5 Chasing The Light

6 Learning To Love Again

7 Down

8 She Got The Honey

9 Young Dumb And In Love

I  really liked most of the songs, except the 2nd one. His cd was definitely great to listen to on a car drive, peppy and "feeling good" sort of music! I definitely recommend that you scope out his music and follow him on FacebookiTunes,  and Mat Kearney.

Wordless Wednesday ---Stitch and my boy and me!

Random Thoughts Tuesday! (with a picture and words!)

Ok, so I know that it's not Wordless Wednesday yet! But, I am posting a picture of one of my favorite places to go! I'm  at WDW in Epcot at the Norway Pavilion during Flower and Garden, possibly '08. (I love that haircut, and I think that I was much thinner then!) This was when they put the trolls out where you could see them, much closer! My favorite thing to do there, besides ride Maelstrom, is to look for the trolls (During F & G, obviously!).  Not sure if it was our birthday weekend or not, I can't tell if that was a Celebrate Birthday button or not. I'm definitely wearing my red Tink holiday watch (more Christmas-y, but oh well!). Just wanted to share this with you!

Frito_Lay Tastes from Home winner!

Julie L. was just chosen via Rafflecopter (oh how I love Rafflecopter---makes my life so much easier!), and she now has 48 hours in which to e-mail me. I just sent her an e-mail. Congrats!

What, no posts in a week? Oops, my bad!

Hey! I was busy with the career that pays my family's bills this week! Plus, hubby and son's schedules for karate and son's P.T. (which he completed today, yahoo!!!) were keeping us busy afternoon and work.
After my weekends to work, I pretty much have Monday and Tuesday nights off (unless the schedule changes). Those two days, if there aren't any appointments or errands for me to run and do, I have time to do projects or activities (like blogging and tweeting and Facebook.) Plus, doing cleaning and laundry.
I need to run down to see my Dad and to pick a prescription (Progesterone cream--I know, TMI, but oh well! You can rub the cream from the syringe on the upper inner arm or on an inner thigh. Works awesome with hot flashes and night sweats!). I'm thinking about going out to lunch with him.

A couple of things today: 1) had to see the podiatrist today, I was having issues with right foot tendon pain, and had a corticosteriod injection. OUCH! Laid down for a late nap this afternoon, I desperately needed it.
2) major homework issues with the boy, and trying to get him to stop coming up to see me after he should have been asleep. I still don't think that his body's off of the summer bedtime schedule! Not good. Since he's old enough to have something for sleep, I gave him a Motrin PM----it will take the edge off of any knee pain for him and help him to rest. Moody issues with him almost everyday! Can't wait for the day that he gets through the hormonal changes in a few years! I am so sure that my husband's thinking the same about me, and I've been in perimenopause changes for at least 3+ years now! I guess that I've got a ways to go! Between the boy and me, we must be a hormonal mess!

Again, don't forget to check out Mrs. Jones' Soapbox, her link and the information are in a post from the past two weeks!!! She has some really awesome scented and great cleaning products, for your home and your laundry!

Taste from Home with Frito-Lay (review and giveaway!) US only. ENDS 8/30/11

I'm working with Frito-Lay on the review and giveaway! I couldn't find the recipes that my mother and grandmother used to make that reminded me of home. And this recipes isn't necessarily a FL recipe. So, I have decided to share with you a recipe that is a favorite of my family of 3, and reminds me of home here where we eat it! It was made for us to have some thing tasty for breakfast or a snack!
It can be used a mix to give to others at Christmas (the dry ingredients) and they can add the wet ingredients later. My recipe is called Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bread.

Ingredients:  2 cups all -purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats (I usually use the quick oats)
                    1/2 cup sugar
                    1/2 cup brown sugar
                    2 tsp baking powder
                    1 tsp baking soda
                     1/2 tsp cinnamon
                     1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (I tend to use walnuts ---and will some times add about 1/4 cup of
                      coconut to it, too!)
1/2 cup of miniature chocolate chips
                     1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
                      2 large eggs
                      1/4 cup melted butter

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, oats, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nuts and chocolate chips.
In a small bowl, beat the buttermilk, eggs, and butter. Stir wet ingredients just until evenly moistened (batter will be lumpy). Scrape into a buttered and floured 9 x 5-iinch loaf pan.Bake in a 350 oven ffor about 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes clean.

The two Lay's flavors that I'd like to try out of the Regional ones are the Chipotle Ranch and the Cajun Herb & Spice.

I'd like to share some information with you about the chips! These chips were inspired by popular American regional cuisine and include:
Northeastern U.S.     Lay Honey Mustard

Midwestern U.S.    Lay's Creamy Garden Ranch

Northwestern U.S.   Lay's Balsamic Sweet Onion

Southwestern U.S.     Lay's Chipotle Ranch

Southeastern U.S. Lay's Cajun Herb & Spice

* All of the Lay's Regional flavored potato chips are made with all natural ingredients and cooked in
healthier oils, like corn and sunflower oils, which contain 80% or more of polyunsaturated and mono- unsaturated fat-- the "good fats". They also contain 0 grams of trans fats per serving. There's also less sodium in them than you might think---a 1-oz serving of their Lay's Regional FLavored potato chips contains less salt that a plain bagel.

One lucky reader will receive a variety pack of the Lay's Regional Flavors!!

Disclosure: I was given the information and chips for my post from Frito-Lay, and the blog post is a form of entry for the contest. The opinions expressed were my own!

Steve and I have enjoyed casual bird-watching ever since we lived in an apartment years ago. At that time, we lived in an apartment in the back of the apartment complex, and there were a few large trees near us. We used to throw birdseed on the ground on the area where there wasn't any grass, and surprisingly, we had several birds come to visit. Red-winged blackbirds, blue jays, cardinals, the list went on. One year, I wanted a set of binoculars so bad, I kept looking at them at Colonial Photo and Hobby. Well, I got them for my birthday that year!

Fast forward several years... our backyard backs up to a conservation area in our neighborhood.  We put out bird feeders and filled them with birdseed and thistle seed and put out suet cakes.  This summer has been really hard on the birds, with food and water, so we put out seed and clean water in our bird feeders and birdbath. In the past few weeks, our feeders were pulled down by something, so my husband decided to put up a post and attach the feeders to it. Guess who's been coming to dinner and whatever meal? Well, besides the birds, we've got squirrels (which I don't mind!) and now raccoons! Argh!If I call the Animal Control people, then they will say, stop feeding them! I'm not feeding the raccoons, I'm feeding the birds!

These were taken with my iPhone 4 earlier this week. They are the size of huge cats, maybe about 25 pounds.

KLOUT Link! Passing it along!

Sharing this link with you for KLOUT! Sorry that I didn't put it into a link!

Friday, August 12, 2011

I've been a fan of Nick Cage for years---- until tonight! I was channel-flicking, not like me, more like the guys in my household, and I stumbled upon "ConAir". I decided ok, I've never seen this one of his movies yet, and started watching it. I've seen  the movie that he was in with Sean Connery, "The Rock" (?), and it was a bit violent. "ConAir" was definitely worse, in the violence category! I definitely don't recommend that movie! His hair was also long and strangely, and I liked him with the shorter hair.  Not happy with him anymore!
I think that John Cusack just replaced him in my favorites list for now! "2012" and "Must Love Dogs" were two of my favorite movies! He was also in the horror flick "1408"!  The Rock--Dwayne Johnson-- is another favorite actor of mine. Steven and I were recently watching "The Game Plan" last week---cute movie and family friendly!

Who are your favorite actors? Just curious!

Otterbox Case for my iPhone 4 (Non-sponsored post, just my opinion!)

I was in correspondence a moment ago with Nicole from Mom Always Finds Out about smartphone cases, and I decided to take a picture of mine. After I got an Otterbox case for my 3GS in '09 I fell in love with Otterbox cases! I cannot tell you how many times that poor iPhone of mine got seriously accidentally dropped! To this day it is working and functioning quite well, due to that Otterbox case protecting it. My son has that iPhone 3GS now, see July posts for why! I got an Otterbox Defender series for my iPhone 4 last month, and I'm happy with it. I have dropped my phone once since I got it, but it's okay! I definitely recommend Otterbox cases!

Disclosure: I wasn't given anything from the Otterbox brand, I was posting about an item from Otterbox that I use and happen to like!!

IMELDA MAY---"MAYHEM" CD REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY{2 winners!!} ends 8/20/11

Imelda May's latest album Mayhem was released on July 19th.  This album is her second album in the US, and the first on the label. She is not new to the US, having been on "The Tonight Show" in April, the 2010 Grammy Awards and a PBS concert special with Jeff Beck.  Her music background is quite interesting, with achieving triple-platinum status in her native Ireland and gold status in the U.K. along with numerous other awards! Imelda performed on Graham Norton's show and twice on Jools Holland. She received 4 -star reviews from MOJO, The Daily Mirror, The Guardian, and The Daily Telegraph. There's more... her album reached #7 on the U.K. chart and remained in the Top 10 for two weeks, and the Top 20 for eight weeks!

Imelda May has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, and Meatloaf, to name a few that you may be familiar with.  Her music is a fusion of surf guitars, blues, and rockabilly. Her distinct style is wearing a solitary curl  and a shock of blond in her jet black hair. Being the youngest of five siblings, she had the varied  influences of her older brothers and sisters. They listened to pop and ....Elvis. She went to art college for a year, and then chose to drop out. She had decided that she wanted to sing for a living! She began to sing in clubs at age 16, sometimes becoming barred from her own  shows due to being underage. In 2006, she formed her own band. Her debut album"Love Tattoo"was soon released and she began to get attention.  In 2008,  she performed on Jools Holland's show "Later", and  here she performed to an audience that included Jeff Beck, Elbow and Roots Manuva. Beck told Holland later that he was only there to see Imelda. Fast forward a few years to 2010, Jeff Beck asked her to perform with him at the Grammys. She had the opportunity to play in a support slot with her idol Wanda Jackson that April.

From her site, " This year Imelda will perform at Glastonbury, T In The Park,  Womad and Ireland's Electric Picnic as well as touring the UK in May and September. She also has three songs---including the
legendary "Johnny Gotta Boom Boom" and forthcoming single "Mayhem" featuring on the soundtrack  to the new "Wild Target" film starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, and Rupert Everett."

My thoughts...I've listened to the cd a few times, and I like Imelda's music. It's not something that I'm used to hearing, and it was definitely a change in style of music for me! Rockabilly, kind of reminds me of Brian Seltzer and The Stray Cats! But I also thought that she sounded a little country-like in "Kentish Town Waltz"! I love "Mayhem", it's got a great beat to it!!  In "Proud and Humble",  she sings, " I said Lord here's the total of what I done. Sometimes I did good, sometimes I done wrong. But I did the best I could from where I come from. And I'll keep on trying' till my day is done." Wow, and it's sung in rockabilly!   I read some of her lyrics, and they make you think! She wrote 13 of the songs on this cd! There is also

Product Review: Downy UNSTOPABLES

Downy has a new product out that I recently had the opportunity to review!

What is it, you ask?  It's a new laundry scent booster: the dissolving beads go in before you start the wash-- so more scent infuses into your clothes, sheets and towels--- and the freshness lasts for more than 30 DAYS.

HOW TO USE:  Downy UNSTOPABLES go directly into the washer drum to infuse a fresh, unstoppable scent.

*Shake a little or a lot into cap.

*Toss into drum of HE or regular washer before you start the wash.

*Drop in any machine-washable clothes, towels, and other fabrics.

* Enjoy lasting fresh scent.

* Use with or without fabric softener.

* Safe for all colors, fabrics and loads.

* Great for active wear and towels.

It comes in Fresh----clean, airy, crisp   and Lush---- Luxurious, relaxing, romantic.

MY OPINION: At first that I thought that it was  strong-smelling when I used it, but as time has gone on, I like it. I've used it with our Downy scent-free liquid fabric softener, and the clothes still smell awesome! I do recommend this product!

Disclosure: I received this free sample from Vocalpoint in order to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed are my own!!  If you want the chance to check out new products, stop by Vocalpoint  and sign up!

BOOK REVIEW: The Chocolate Diaries by Karen Scalf Linamen

Have you ever found a book, other than a cookbook, that combined advice about life and chocolate together? That book is The Chocolate Diaries: Secrets for a Sweeter Journey on the Rocky Road of Life, by Karen Scalf Linamen! Throughout this book  Karen combines stories about situations and people who she knows or who have written to her with recipes made with chocolate.  There was a story about a blind man named Erik Weihenmayer who reached the summit of the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. He didn't let blindness stop him from doing things! How awesome! from Karen's book, "And it all began when Erik made the choice to let go of his vision for a life of fitting in and being normal. When he finally let go of ordinary, he was able to grasp with both hands a new vision that was nothing less than extraordinary." Each chapter had little morsels of food for thought, and they were really quite helpful!
Here's one of the food for thought: "Think about a time when the right person or people showed up just when you needed them most. Have you ever been that person for someone else?" I really like that!!

My thoughts on the book... when have I not liked a book that I've reviewed in the past year? This book was awesome! It took me a little while to read it, since I started reading it after my first foot surgery this summer. Every time I picked it up to read it, I learned more things on how cope with the rocky roads in my life. I did like the recipes, too, and will have to make some of them sometime! It is written by a Christian author, and she does place a few bible verses in here and there. It was definitely an easy read, and thoroughly enjoyable. I do recommend this book very highly!
I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Go visit At Home with Michelle this week---it's her birthday week!

Michelle at "At Home with Michelle" is having her birthday this week and giving away a present a day this week. Check out her blog at At Home with Michelle  .

COUNTDOWN TO SCHOOL STARTING!(he goes back tomorrow!)

WOW! I can't believe that my son has one more day at home before school starts back tomorrow! I got him up early today, trying to get him tired for tonight. He's got his mom's night owl hours for staying up late and sleeping in late unfortunately! 7th grade...I'm kind of reminiscing today, remembering when he was in the first grade! I found a poem folder that he did in first grade yesterday afternoon, while I was going through a tote. It's definitely a keeper! We had our trials and tribulations with him back then, he joined chorus, and he was also going through speech with a speech therapist. He was a social bee in class back then, and got into trouble talking a lot.

Now, he's texting and talking with his friends on Facebook constantly! What happened to phone calls?
There will be less goofing off this year and more focusing on studying and homework in our household. Since school doesn't get out till late afternoon, he'll have to focus on homework practically as soon as he gets home. He signed up for advanced classes, and he needs to keep his grades up in them.  When I was his age, my mother was still a stay at home mom (she was a RN, and she stayed home from when my brother Bruce was born until I was around 13 or 14 years old---about 11 years). Unfortunately, that's not the case in our household, and I'll be heading back to work late next week---pending what my podiatrist says. My husband's geared toward the math and technical classes, and I can help him with the English and grammar, if you can believe that!

He's doing great in physical therapy, so I don't anticipate him having to go there too much longer. We have the equipment at home, minus a treadmill. His right knee gets "sore" sometimes, and he uses the colpacks  (a particular brand of a cold pack) that we have here to "ice" it when needed. He'll probably be out of P.E. the first two weeks, and if he needs to be out of it longer, we just have to contact the ortho doctor and he'll extend the note.

Falling Skies-- I'm watching the season finale!

If you watch TNT, you'll know that the season finale for "Falling Skies" is on right now, and I'm watching it! For some reason or another, I'm into catastrophic shows and movies. Give me a natural disaster movie to watch and I'll have my eyes glued to it! I'm already waiting for next season! (The Glee Project took the back burner tonight for me. I did record it on the dvr, though!) I was surprised to find out yesterday that even my Dad watches it, and I think that he was going to try to stay up to watch it tonight! I tried to follow the #fschat tonight on twitter, but like tweet parties, I got lost after awhile!

I"m aiming to try to do some following of three different blog hops tonight, while I'm watching "Falling Skies". I finally have the family room to myself, and it's quiet, except for my show and Doc (one of our birds) making baby noises!

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Hi!! I attempted to post this morning, but for some reason or another, the Blogger app on my iPhone4 was giving me some grief! I had taken a picture of my toe, and had a bit of a paragraph to go with it. I was posting about son's right knee progress, while we were eating breakfast. I definitely wasn't motivated earlier today!! It took a large cup of coffee to wake me up, along with my cereal! I tried to cut out the caffeine while I've been on leave, but no luck! I have cut down, though, from about 2 glasses of tea and a huge cup of coffee, to about 1 and 1---not much! I started reading "Caffeine Makes Me Bleed" this morning,  while Steven was at his P.T. appointment.

He had a pool party to go to this afternoon, and we stopped by Walgreens to see what their prices were for sodas. Not bad for 2 liters, 3 for $4. No coupons, though! When I was driving up AIA in Satellite Beach after dropping him off at the party, I thought that I saw at huge almost life-size pirate figure that looked like Jack Sparrow on the front porch of a house!  I wished that I had taken a picture of it! It was so interesting and it had caused me to do a double take!! I'm such a Pirates of the Caribbean fan!!!

Ramblings from Barb!

Hi! Son's right knee is improving by the day! Steven's been getting up and around, going to physical therapy----he has 2 rounds of P.T. under his belt so far, and he's been working on his exercises at home. Sad but true, good thing that hubby and I've been through it ourselves before, so that we can help son out with what he needs to do exercise-wise at home, and we have some of the equipment at home, like exercise bands, an exercise bicycle, balance ball, and a boscu ball. I wish that I could take a picture of his knee, but he's at that point where, "Mom, if you take one more picture of me!",  I'll probably be brained!

As for me, I'm slowly working on wearing my Ascics sneakers, increasing an hour a day, and my right foot seems to be tolerating it okay. MY podiatrist said that it may take 6 months to a year for the swelling to go down on my right foot. The sneaker fits snug around the foot, and I can tell that my big toe's shorter in the shoe!!!  Maybe a pic again one of these days!

Fibromyalgia...I'm wondering how many of my readers have it or if someone your  family or circle of friends has it. Since I was diagnosed with it last year, I've been reading up on it, trying to learn more about it and what I can do to relieve some of my symptoms. It's not something that my patients at work tend to have, and I didn't learn about it in nursing school years ago. I listen to podcasts or music to get my mind off of the discomfort, and am trying to get more mobile again (Aiming to get son to show me how to use Wii Fit (?) once he's doing better!). We've got the Wii and I've got exercise dvds---especially some Tai Chi, that I plan to use, maybe in the next few days. My TENS unit helps with my neck and upper back area. And I forgot my one-speed bicycle (Panama Jack) from WalMart, that is absolutely inexpensive and gorgeous! can't wait till I can ride it! Sleep is still an issue for me, and my rheumatologist switched my meds a little Monday to see if that would help. I'm not super crazy about taking a sleeping pill every night, but I do need sleep!

Summer... wow! (It makes me think of "Summertime" by Brother Love---he's cool!) It is almost over in our household! Steven has registration for 7th grade this Friday and next Monday, and then he goes back to school a week from today! I have mixed feelings about it! I got to spend a lot of time with him this summer, due to both foot surgeries.  And then there were times when he totally drove me crazy, but I still love him regardless! Clothes shopping... oh boy, I think  it will be at Aeropostale, he seems to like their clothes. We have just about everything else he needs supply-wise, due to a recent shopping excursion to WalMart  before his surgery!

My guys are at karate, and I'm home doing laundry and watching something from Netflix called "Food Beware:The French Organic Revolution". It's quite interesting!  In an hour, I'll be watching "Royal Pains", my favorite tv show!!! I've never been to The Hamptons, but would love to someday!
