A scene from Sea World!

I just wanted to share this pic of the nutcracker with you all. It was on the wall of the Voyager restaurant in Sea World. It's 6:20 pm here in Orlando, FL, and it is darn right chilly!! Having a hot cocoa!

Christmas post--- belated!

Hey my readers!! Good afternoon from Sea World! My planned posts will be delayed from last week, obviously! Between Physical Therapy for my feet and working some crazy shifts at work last week ( one night shift, part of an evening shift, and one 12 hour shift), plus two short trips, no real time to post. I am still fighting the bronchitis, on 2nd round of steroids, plus my regular Symbicort and Singular, along with nebulizer or inhaler of Xopenex. I am hoping that it doesn't linger 6 weeks like the bout of bronchitis I had in '04! I am taking alot of pics at WDW and Sea World, aiming to post some over the holidays! We are passholders at Sea World/Busch Gardens and at WDW, and as FL residents we try to go when we can! I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas yesterday! ( I missed church Friday night since I pulled a 12 hour shift, helping out to cover for a nurse who had the Norovirus!)

Mom and son trip at WDW

Ok, so I have been at WDW since yesterday with Steven! We planned about 3 weeks ago to take a trip by ourselves to WDW while hubby was working. It's a 2 day trip. We spent last evening hanging out at Epcot with friends of ours from Nebraska, who are down at WDW for the week. It was quite chilly, so we did a couple of indoor attractions.
We tried to stay awake for lunar eclipse, but woke up before four, and went outside our resort to look. Can't believe that one has to wait till 2094 to see it again!

We are at Animal Kingdom now having lunch, I will try to post more as the day goes on! I do have some other posts coming up this week before Christmas!

Addendum to A Year with GOD!

Addendum to previous post on A Year With GOD....  oops! I forgot to post that I had received the book, no charge, from Book Sneeze and was given the opportunity to review it. The review posted was of my own opinion!

A Year With GOD--Daily reading and Reflections on GOD's own words (Review)

I recently had the opportunity to review "A Year With GOD", written by R.P. Nettelhorst . It's an awesome devotional with daily readings and reflections on GOD's words! The scripture quotations were taken from varied versions of the Bible, from The Message, NLT, The New King James Version, Holman's, etc. There was a bible verse at the top of each page, followed by a reflection about the verse. I found it to be quite comforting, not to replace my daily bible reading, but to give me a verse and some reflection for the day.  From the introduction, "A Year With God highlights God's words to his people in the Old Testament."  It is grouped into different sections, such as Hope and Fear, Love and Hate, Perserverance and Quitting, Faith and Doubt, Loyalty and Betrayal, Companionship and Isolation, to name a few of the areas!

The moment that I opened this daily readings book, I found it to be easy to read and understand, written on a level that the average person could relate to! I'm a fan of the Old Testament, and I really enjoyed reading the daily verses.  The different versions of the bible varied from day to day, and gave me the opportunity to read versions of the verses that I didn't necessarily have around the house. The reflections were quite interesting, too, and they definitely gave me thought for pondering  throughout my day! I started in the Hope and Fear section, and am continuing to read that section now. I seriously recommend that you give this daily readings and reflections book an opportunity the next time you are wanting to have some reflection in your daily lives!

The Factor Tree--- a Better Way to Learn Math!

I was recently asked by BzzAgent to scope out The Factor Tree, a better way to learn math! The Factor Tree helps kids learn math in a way that works best for them. It's geared for children from pre-K to 6th grade, which is what grade my son's in right now.
(  BARB'S-------Unfortunately, we really didn't have the optimum chance to review and to work with the site much, due to unforeseen factors in our life right now, such as 3 of us having bronchitis, his heavy homework and test schedule between last month and this month----- and his science and book report projects that were due this month.) Son thought that it was interesting and definitely challenged him.

What makes the Factor Tree so effective?

  • Provides the practice and repetition needed for a child to truly master key math skills
  • Use a skill-adaptive progression algorithm to pinpoint each child’s true skill level
  • Provides parents with helpful reports, metrics and notifications to track their child’s progress
  • Combines a state testing-compliant curriculum, world class educational theories and innovative technology to create a better learning tool
Visit to learn more about its distinct approach to education and sign up for your free one-month trial.
Your child gets tested about every week on the site, and the test for the 6th grade was actually challenging in a good way!

You, too, can get a two-week trial with the site for your child by using the code  "BZZAGENT"!!

Scope them out, and you'll see your child be challenged!

Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to check out The Factor Tree by BzzAgent, of which I am a member, and the opinions posted are my own!

Special "Community" Christmas episode airs Thursday night 12/9/10 at 8PM EST!!

I had the awesome opportunity to preview one of my favorite shows this morning! The NBC show "Community" is having a Christmas special tomorrow night 12/9/10, and it is definitely a "can't miss"!!!  "Community" usually focuses on things that happen  in the community college between friends and classmates and their professors. It's quite entertaining, and the special Christmas stop animation show is going to be even more entertaining!

In this special stop motion animation episode, the meaning of Christmas is lost, and Abed's intense fixation of Christmas concerns  the group. When Abed wakes up in the stop-motion animation, he takes it as a sign that he and the group must re-discover the meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile, Jeff and  Britta become growingly concerned about Abed's mental health and they enlist the help of Professor Duncan. The group undergoes hypnosis to explore Abed's winter wonderland and soon unravel the truth behind Abed's madness.
It's starring Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Joel McHale, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, and John Oliver.

This one's a pic of Ballerina Annie.

Another pic of one of the stop animation characters,  Britta Bot.

Here's Jeff-in-the-box!!

Here they are in Abed's Winter Wonderland, with the wizard.

Community - Journey Through Winter Wonderland - Video -

The above link will take you to a clip of tomorrow night's show, of animated Abed!! I loved this little clip, just a teaser of the show, to get you to tune in and watch it tomorrow night, 12/9/10, at 8pm EST on NBC!!!
You will definitely enjoy it! If you haven't watched this show before,  take the opportunity and watch it for the first time!!!

Disclosure: I was given the opportunity through One2One Network to watch a preview of the entire Christmas special from NBC, and by posting about it, I will be entered to win prizes.  The opinions  are my own!

Welch's Healthy Start 100% Juice Review

Welch's has 3 new fruit juices out that can shake up your morning!!!
The new Welch's Healthy Start juices :
*have 100 % juice with no added sugar
*contain 2x the antioxidant vitamin C of the leading OJ
* Natural antioxidant power straight from the grapes
* two servings (1 cup) of fruit in every 8 oz. glass

It comes in three delicious flavors, perfect for the whole family---  Grape , Blueberry Pomegranate Grape, and White Grape Orange Mango.
I decided to try the Blueberry Pomegranate Grape, since I like all three of those fruits! It was awesome, it had just the right amount of sweetness along with a wee bit of tart (I guess from the pomegranante!!). My hubby and son opted not to try anything this time, so I enjoyed the whole carton myself over a few days!
My friend Teressa also tried the Blueberry Pomegranate Grape juice, and she told me that she liked it, too.

The suggested retail price for the 59oz. carton is $3.79.
You can find out more online at  and on

Disclosure: I'm a BzzAgent, and I was given free coupons in which to try the product from Welch's. The opinions posted are my own!

TV Shows and some rambling!!

If you've been following me on twitter, you'll notice that I watch alot of shows from the dvr, when I post via Miso from my iPhone. I never seem to get the chance to watch shows whenever they're on in real time, due to that either hubby or son doesn't want to watch what I'm watching. I tend to catch Sanctuary from the dvr on Saturday mornings, it's a different sort of show on the SyFy channel. I started watching it after I stumbled upon Warehouse 13. Wednesday nights are always dvr'ed since I never get a Wednesday night off unless I'm sick or on vacation. Modern Family and The Middle are definitely son's and my faves! Grey Anatomy and Private Practice-----two that I can watch the next day after 10 am from enjoy them, and don't seem to get bothered by the surgeries! Maybe it's because I saw an open chest surgery back when I was in nursing school-- a lady's lung was being removed, and I could see her heart beating.  Who knows!
Miso is an app on the iPhone and the Blackberry, if I'm correct, and it's another social media site where you can post what movie or tv show that you're watching. They had a really cool thing on Thanksgiving, where if you posted that you were watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, you ended up with a Minion badge or something like that and could log on a site that had to do with Minions and the Despicable Me movie. Too Cool!

My favorite show today has been the Sarah Palin's Alaska show. Even though it's about her family and what they did this summer, I'm enjoying the awesome Alaskan scenery!!! Alaska's on my bucket list! Early on in my marriage to Steve, I wanted us to move there, and I wanted to work as a nurse flying to different towns  or work in a hospital in Anchorage! We got older, and my desire to want to move there changed, but I still want to travel to that beautiful state!!!

I can't stay awake much longer, starting to yawn too much!!! Good night to you all!  Hope that you had a great weekend!

Definitely a wide range  of different styles of music, something to suit everyone. This cd is compiled from cameos, duets and collaborations that span the musical spectrum---recorded from 2000 to 2010! My favorites were Baby It's Cold Outside, Creepin' In, Blue Bayou, to name a few!!!  Son liked Baby It's Cold Outside, too!!!!

Whew, what a week, and it's not over yet!!!

Good evening! Posting from the phone till after Storm Chasers is finished on the dvr! We have had a long sick week in our household, and hubby and I are both exhausted!! Alesha, I know that I can't totally relate to what you go through on a daily basis with Ike and especially when he's sick, my hat's off to you!!
This week, our son who's 11, almost 12, started in with a fever of 103.3 on Monday evening. We started with trying to get the fever down that night before I had to go to work---as a night-shift RN in a nursing home. Hubby took Tuesday off to take son to the pediatrician. Found out that son had a bilateral ear infection ( both ears, for the non-medical!!) and a sinus infection. Big guy took care of little guy while I slept that day, and I worked Tuesday night. I came home to son still running a fever Wednesday, still. So, I helped with cough syrup and Tylenol or ibuprofen, and I proceeded to doze off on the sofa.
I woke up to the sound of son coughing, like he was going to cough up a hairball or something. I called our scheduler at work to see if she could get someone to cover for me, since I really needed to take care of my son.
I ended up getting her to cover Thursday night, too, and I am using some vacay days to cover those hours for pay.
I went through countless nebulizer treatments, bugging son to drink fluids & eat, take mucinex and Tylenol or ibuprofen when needed. We, being hubby and I, took son back to pediatrician this afternoon, after speaking with her on the phone today. His temp wasn't staying down and we didn't know what else to do. The doctor switched his antibiotic from Augmentin tabs to what is known as a Z-pak! He also got another diagnosis, bronchitis. Arrrrrrggghhhh! Still xopenex nebulizer treatments, mucus-busting meds, and Tylenol/ ibuprofen!!!!
All the while this week, we've picked up homework and assignments twice from school for him, trying to stay caught up.
I've battled head congestion for about 3 weeks now and hubby's starting to feel cruddy! We're all asthmatics, too! Lovely, eh?

iPhone app review of Alzebra from Punflay!!!

Alzebra is a new educational app from Punflay from their popular Mathematix series. This app is designed to teach kindergartners basic algebra! And, boy is it fun! I reviewed this app myself, due to the fact that my 11 year old's been busy with homework ,studying for tests,  and working on science project stuff during the past week. (Son usually likes to scope out games on my iPhone, even if they're for younger ones than him!)

It has 5 different games to choose from within the app: Pizza Mania, Tummy Time, Space Rock, Number Strike, and Sound Sequence. I played 3 out of the 5 during the past week: Pizza Mania, Space Rock, and Tummy Time.
With the Tummy Time game, you had to get the animal near the food that was pictured on the screen for it, as the food fell from the sky. If the animal ate the wrong food, it ended up with a tummy ache! This was a harder one for me--- I guess that I'm not smarter than a kindergartner!!  I didn't do so well at it!

The next one that I played was the Pizza Mania game. Beside the slice of pizza were pictures of the toppings that needed to be placed on the pizza. The toppings would be moving around and appearing on the page---you had to get them on the slice!!! I did do better on this one!!!

The last game that I had a chance to play was Space Rock, and to me, it was the easiest one! A pattern would go across the top of the screen , and you would have to complete the sequence!

If I had a young one around kindergarten age, I would definitely want this app for him or her! It teaches sequencing and basic concepts of algebra for  young ones!!!

It is available on iTunes currently for 99 cents.

Disclosure: I received the opportunity to review this iPhone app from Punflay, who supplied the app  via Mommy Blogs Product Review Network, and the opinions expressed were my own!

Thursday evening

Good evening! Aiming to post a review tonight, after a few errands! Stay tuned, especially if you have young ones!

Friday Night's Alright!

Well, it's Friday evening---almost-- and my guys are at a church "garage sale" trying to sell stuff for the youth retreat going on next weekend. Both hubby and DS11 are there, while I'm vegging out doing laundry and watching dvds, and cleaning dishes from some earlier cookie baking that I did!
I just got through watching the newest Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue!!! I am definitely never too old to watch Disney movies!!! I am still a kid at heart!
I never got the chance to watch Beauty and the Beast when it came out at the movie theaters years ago, and so when it came out on blu-ray earlier this month, I decided to buy it for me, and I'll bet that son will end up watching it, too! Last weekend, I found some Halloween Disney dvds at Best Buy---at two different ones(one in Orlando on 441 near the FL Mall, and the other one was in Melbourne) for $6.99 and $10.99, so I got about 5 of them. We now have all of the Halloween Town series of dvds, son really liked that group of movies. Hocus Pocus, with Sarah Jessica Parker and two other actresses that I can't think of at the moment, is the next movie that I've got in the line-up for tonight while I'm alone!
I found a cheap dvd of Poltergiest I think at Walmart recently, and though I watched it at the movies back in 1982, it still creeps me out, but I like to watch it anyway! I'll probably watch it during the daytime next week on one of my days off! "Carol Ann, Carol Ann, come to the light, Carol Ann."
We tend to do Fall Festivals at church, but since son's got his retreat next weekend, I doubt that he'll be going to one of our church's fall festivals. Highly doubtful about going around the neighborhood getting candy, either. I'm half-hoping that he's over trick-or-treating!! Can't believe that he'll be 12 in about 1 and 1/2 months!!!
  Until next time...... buena sera!

Samhain Publishing is offering a copy of Wolf Signs to a lucky winner at my blog!!

Win a copy of A Wolf Signs by Vivian Arend!
Wolf Signs
Robyn Maxwell doesn’t care that her brother has to cancel out on their backcountry ski trip. She can do it alone. The fact she’s deaf doesn’t make her survival skills any weaker. The chance to get away from it all and relax in the Yukon wilderness is just what she’s been craving.
Meeting wilderness guide Keil at the cabin starts cravings of another kind. Keil’s one hot hunk of ripped, tasty male. Now she has to deal with raging hormones as well as strange questions about wolves and mates and challenges to the death.
Keil was trying for a nice reflective retreat before challenging for the Alpha position of his Alaskan pack. He wasn’t planning on meeting the woman destined to be his mate, or finding out she’s not aware she has the genes of a wolf.
Between dealing with his accident-prone younger brother, a deaf mate with an attitude and an impending duel to the death, his week—and his bed—is suddenly full.
Far from the relaxing getaway any of them had in mind...
Leave a comment for a chance to win a digital copy of Wolf Signs!

Noisemaker's off the site, ya'll!

OK,  after realizing  how/that music can be annoying  when you visit a blog, I have decided to remove it from mine (the Blip-thing!). I couldn't do anything on my blog without it turning on, and it was really annoying my hubby and son! I couldn't listen to my Live 365 Disney music, without the overpowering playing of Blip!!!!
I can imagine how it bothered you all! So,now,  the only thing that currently will play is when you hit the play button on "I Like It"!

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!!! A Safe Harbor by Moira Rogers!!

The winner chosen by random organizer was #2, Sarah! Sarah said...

I've heard so much about this series but not had a chance to read it yet! Would LOVE to win the first book :-)

Sarah, I will be e-mailing you soon. You have 48 hours in which to contact me and send me your info!  Congrats!!!

KT Tunstall's new cd Tiger Suit is out!

100_Tiger_Suit_cover.jpgSounds of Tiger Suit
If you aren't familiar with KT's music, you definitely remember one of her previous hit songs - the Grammy-nominated "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," "Suddenly I See," Other Side of the World" or "Hold On".
Tiger Suit heralds the beginning of a new musical adventure for KT. Organic instrumentation is blended with dance-friendly textures, the results of which she has dubbed “Nature Techno” to encapsulate the album’s collision of raw, upfront rootsiness and sleek electronic textures
The album's rollicking first single, “Fade Like A Shadow" is available at digital retailers now and is already at Top 20 hit at radio.

A Safe HarborFind out how it all began...
During the bite of the Great Depression, sole female dominant Joan  Fuller struggles against the rise of cruelty among her alpha  counterparts. The men tolerate her interference--until she breaks from  the pack and allies with a witch and a vampire. Now the Boston alpha  intends to bring them all forcibly back into the fold--and teach her a  lesson she may not survive.
Seamus Whelan and his werewolf bootleggers intend to retire from  smuggling and savor their fortune, but first they must do a favor for an  old friend: escort some female wolves to safety. An easy job, if their  leader wasn't a prim ex-debutante with enough power to challenge Seamus  himself. Chance makes them allies; powerful need makes them lovers.
Together, they have the opportunity to build a sanctuary for their kind,  but first they must free themselves from Joan's past, and the powerful  man who would see her destroyed.
Leave a comment for a chance to win a digital copy of A Safe Harbor!

Rain go away!

Hi!!! If you've watched any weather for the nation lately, you'll see what FL's going to be going through this week! Rain with thunder, no lightning this afternoon, so I am sitting in the car line at son's school to pick him up. Lovely, and I hate driving in rain!!!

Good afternoon! I've decided to eat  lunch while posting! I've got the house to myself and the feathered babies until hubby and son come home from work and school, respectively! I left work early this morning, so that I could at least get a shower and breakfast and clean clothes on before heading to not one, but two doctors' appointments this morning. I really didn't think that it would be cool to wear my scrubs to an appointment after I got sweaty last night----definitely not cool! I was able to get to both appointments on time today, way cool!  I had a few stops on the way home for other errands as you'll see below!

A few days ago, our lovebird Shrek got one of his feet nipped by our senegal Trouble. Shrek's little foot wound kept bleeding a bit one day, and we didn't have any steptic powder around. The foot's ok now, but I didn't want to take any chances again with nothing in the house to stop a bleed from a nail or other, so I stopped at our local pet store to get a container of the powder. And the lady gave me a discount on it!

Stopped by Target, and they happened to have Halloweentown and Halloweentown II on one dvd, son had been wanting it for awhile. I had gone in hoping to buy the blu-ray/dvd combo of the latest Tinker Bell movie, since I had printed out the $10 off coupon from Disney Movie Rewards, but ended up with a rain check. The movie would have been for me, I'm such a Disney Fanatic!!

This afternoon, once son gets home from school, we'll head over to Orlando to go to one of our favorite places, IKEA!!! We're needing a few more storage units for the family room, and possibly the spare bedroom----in attempt to do some more organizing!!! I'm definitely doing fall cleaning and finally purging my stuff of things that I've moved with us throughout the years!
Maybe I'll foursquare or twitter while we're over there this evening! Who knows!

Hoping that my friends Lorie and Bill are doing ok today.... and also my friends Alesha and Doug and Isaac (hoping that the youngun's feeling better!!!)!!

Wednesday and boy, has it been a long week!

Hi! Have you ever had one of those weeks with your child or children when you wondering when it's going to click with them about getting assignments for class done?
We , or should I say, my husband, keep track of son's grades via Edline on the Mac. He didn't turn in two assignments earlier this week, and he ended up with 2 incompletes on homework. When did he think that we weren't going to find out?? We love the boy dearly and completely, but sometimes!!!! :O)
Hubby had a talk with him after he got home from work today and on the way back home from karate, and  hopefully DS listened! He's a smart kid, don't get me wrong!

I'm into my 3rd night straight at work tonight out of my 4 in a row, and it's just been so busy! I love my patients, but sometimes you just can't do everything for everyone!!
And if I had been paying attention last week when I scheduled my podiatrist appointment, I would have realized that I will be running to not one, but two doctor appointments within a 2 hour period on Friday morning!!! Lovely!!! Can I blame Mommy Alzheimer's or just be too busy to think???
