Hey all! Trying to commit to more posting about life around here in the next week, since son's on Spring Break as of yesterday afternoon. Steven had been trying to get us to Meg O'Malley's for awhile, everytime we wanted to go out to eat in Brevard County. I don't quite remember where Brevard County's lower border is, but I think that it's around Grant or Fellsmere. And, the top is somewhere around Mims. We tend to go between Palm Bay and Titusville, when checking out places to eat, mostly lately in Melbourne.
Anyhow,  I texted a co-worker of mine yesterday afternoon, trying to find out places in the Titusville area to eat for dinner, I guess that he thought that I was joking! A few minutes later he texted me back about 4 places, which we'll probably scope out at a later date. We toyed with going to Titusville, but ended up deciding to go to Melbourne, to Meg O'Malley's, an Irish pub/restaurant, since it had been on son's request of places.

I posted a couple of pics on Whrrl of Steven's potato and leek soup---if you've had Le Cellier's soup at the Canadian Pavilion at Epcot, Le Cellier's soup is cheesy and beer flavored and pureed. O'Malley's is definitely chunks of potato and bacon and leeks, with grated cheese sprinkled on top. Both soups are great, in my opinion.

The corned beef and cabbage meal was delicious, and had decent portions. I chose Colcannon, a combination of potatoes and cabbage mixed together, instead of red bliss potatoes. The corned beef was so tender that you could cut a bite with just your fork. I also had baby carrots and buttered cabbage. I never got around to eating the brown bread roll! Steve had shepherd's pie, I think that he liked it, if I remember correctly!! Steven had the soup and a ceasar salad---he's on a ceasar salad kick right now. No dessert or alcohol drinks for us there, just tea and soda.

Parking was at a premium in Downtown Melbourne, it's kind of hard to find a parking spot along W. New Haven Avenue, so we ended up parking near Melbourne City Hall, on one of the main roads---and we walked!
Off to Walmart after dinner to check out if Steven could get a water bottle holder for his bike, but none looked liked they'd fit on his bike. I found the Blu-ray set of Pirates of the Caribbean (all 3 of the movies in a set) for around $49, and bought them. I love those movies!!! Cap'n Jack!!!
We got home close to 9pm, and I had been up mostly all day after I got home from work yesterday morning. I decided to watch Fringe in the master bedroom, and proceeded to fall asleep watching it! Ha! I don't remember much of the show! I think that he woke me up about 10:30 pm to take my bedtime meds, and I wasn't up much later than that!

I'm aiming to take Steven with me to WDW on Tuesday, not sure what park yet, it seriously depends on how I feel that day!

So much for trying to work on diet this week! Ha!

I was doing ok with my Kashi cereal with the berries in it this week, trying hard not to eat major calories! Well, breakfast from Jimmies' of chocolate chip pancakes and now Irish pub food at Meg O'Malley's definitely hasn't helped! Looks like I need to have son teach me how to use the Wii, we have Wii Fit! Julie, Help me!!!

Miscellaneous thoughts about things lately...

Hi! Lots of things have been going on around here lately!
My job's been keeping me busy with trying to tie up loose ends at the end of the shift, and trying to make sure that our staff get their jobs done, as in making sure that the CNAs are doing what they should and making sure that the nurses' station doesn't look like a mess at the end of the shift! Plus, I'm usually running around like a crazy woman at the end of my shift trying to get meds out on time and to handle requests from my residents as I go from room to room on my team passing meds. I'm a RN in a nursing home/subacute facility (rehabilitation for those coming from the hospital for short term rehab before going home or to an assisted living facility or staying in my facility.) It's hard work, but I do it!

We've been dealing with issues with our son having problems with some of his classmates being bullies lately, and having to call the school to report them. One kid got suspended over punching our son, and luckily son didn't punch back. Though, he was afraid of retaliation from the child if he had reported him, but some of his classmates did instead. I could have brained our son a few days later when  he "friended" the kid on XBox, and they got into an argument, and he threatened to whup him again and he said that he would come to our neighborhood to get him. Then, our son threatened to hit him with a bat. (Now, that was uncalled for and inappropriate, this is what I told our son.) We told him to not talk with this kid, and to have nothing to do with him. Granted, Steven takes karate, and could have easily used it on the kid and others, he hasn't yet.  Bullying is a big "no-no" in the schools down here, and isn't tolerated. I sure wished that I had reported issues like this when I was in school, but back then, I feared retaliation, big-time. I was too shy and too naive back then.

I've been trying to learn how to use Whrrl and other apps on my iPhone lately, I would appreciate it if you all would check out what I've done with Whrrl lately----please give me your opinions on it. I've loving social media and all forms of it!!! I'm constantly on twitter, using foursquare and gowalla when I'm out and about, and miso and getglue when I'm at home watching tv or when I'm out.

I'm also trying to post here on my blog or use Whrrl to mention about places in Central FL or Brevard County, FL-----like as in UCF Arena, or about new diners that we've scoped out in Brevard, or even places that we go to when we go over to Orlando. I've lived in FL for 36 out of my almost 49 years (yea, I'm finally admitting the age that I'll be in less than 2 months!!!!), and most of them were over in the Orlando area-------20 years over there and 16 in the Brevard County area.  We've been into checking out diners in Melbourne mostly, and I've posted a few pics recently about Harbor City Diner. Decent food at decent prices! We've also been to Little Phillies in Satellite Beach & Steagles in Melbourne, to name two others! I haven't really used Yelp on my iPhone much, because the last time we followed a recommendation from someone on it in the Orlando  area for a Mexican restaurant over in the Winter Park area, we ended up with a bad experience with the meal and the food sucked! We tend to check out places that friends or co-workers recommend to us, most of the time. And, sometimes, we'll scope out a place that's been mentioned in the local Friday TGIF section.
Check out small Mom and Pop places, you might just end up with some decent food!!

Organization..... I've been trying to go through things that I've brought with us through moves during the past 22 years, and throwing things out or donating to son's rummage sale. School papers from K-4 through 6th grade are being sorted and gone through, recipes from ever since we got married & some that I've printed from the Net in the past few years, and other miscellaneous things. We're trying to finally turn our spare bedroom into a spare bedroom! We have purchased a few units from IKEA for organizing stuff, one of which was posted on Organize with Sandy, on one of her postings during the past two months.  We also bought one of the sofas, kind of like a futon, but not exactly!  We also moved Steven's XBox unit in there, freeing up some space in the family room for speakers for our entertainment center.
Here's the link for how the Expendit is organized form our house!  Organize With Sandy

Summer Camp..... We are already planning for our son to go to summer camp for a week with his church youth group, when I might be off from work with foot surgery for my plantar fasciitis. He's excited about going, and I will miss him------ not used to him being away from home, but am realizing that he's finally growing up and getting older, I've got to let loose the strings a bit!  He's even looking forward to going away for a weekend (Again!) with his youth group for Spring Break (they went away during the last weekend in October last year)-----I was hoping to go to WDW for a day with him during that time----he's my Disney buddy, we love Mom and Boy trips to WDW without Dad!
Enough said for one night...... I'm rambling, and it's late! I've still got laundry to hang up! A mom's work is never done! Good night!

Do some Spring Cleaning with Fellowes!

Spring cleaning... when those words are mentioned, what do you think of? Cleaning the house from top to bottom, inside and out? Or do you think of it as purging the house or apartment of documents, receipts, credit card statements, or old credit cards that you no longer use and have closed the account out?
Fellowes PS-12C  is the right machine to help with getting rid of paper, credit cards, and other documents that you want to safely get rid of. It's durable & affordable, and provides a high level of family security. It can shred staples, paper clips, and credit cards.  The Fellowes PS-12C shredder can safely shred a single piece of paper into 399 pieces! That is just awesome!
The PS-12C also includes Fellowes’ patented SafeSense technology, which disables the shredder when it senses hands or large pets come too close to the paper opening, which is quite handy, when you have wee ones  or dogs or cats around!
The slim design can fit in real easy in your environment, in the kitchen or office or under a desk!
They are sold online at Fellowes or at Target. It has a suggested retail price of $89.99 and can be bought at Target stores nationwide!

Here's some spring cleaning tips to prevent identity theft! Scope them out!

Spring Cleaning Tips to Protect from Identity Theft

The Identity Theft Resource Center recommends their
Top 5 Tips for spring cleaning the home office:
Begin with the Basics: Sort through the piles of paperwork on your desk and in your office drawers.  Place them into two categories: ‘save’ and ‘shred.’
Proper Storage: Organize the "save" pile into labeled folders and be sure to put anything confidential into a fire-proof lock box.  The "shred" pile should be properly disposed of with aCross-Cut shredder, such as a Fellowes P-12C
Cross-Cut technology is an important feature for a shredder because it provides high security, destroying confidential information into unidentifiable pieces.  Equally important areenhanced safety features, such as Fellowes' SafeSense technology, which shuts the machine down when hands come too close to the paper opening, which is so important if you have children.
Get a Digital Makeover: Refresh your home office computer by deleting files you no longer use and backing-up important data onto an external hard drive.  Clean out your inbox andchange all passwords.  Refreshing your computer is a good practice to follow throughout the year as well.
Make Life Easier: Plan ahead by purchasing organizational tools for your desk, such as computer risers or file folder holders.  This will help clear clutter from your desk top while keeping things within arms reach.
Freshen Up: Get rid of dust and germs that easily build up on office equipment such as keyboards, telephones and cabinets.  You'll feel instantly more productive with a clean workspace.

Measurement app for the iPhone by Punflay---Review!

I recently had the opportunity to review the fun Measurement App by Pumflay for the iPhone.  It teaches kindergartners about weight, volume, and length! Ok, so I don't have any kindergartners in my household, I've got a 6th grader! But, I do love iPhone apps that can teach and are fun at the same time, and I do have friends and co-workers who have little ones! Here's a link to info about it: Measurement
It has several learning games, such as Crazy Clock, Scale Tale, Fill Me Up, Long and Short,  and Action Months.  With Crazy Clock,  you have to put the right time on the clock with the time of day that you do that particular activity. That was cool, you moved the hands around to the correct time! Sure wish that it had been around when I was learning how to tell time years ago!
Scale Tale--with this game you had to figure out which item on the scale was heavier or lighter.
Fill Me Up-- I had fun with this one, I was scoping out this particular game on a drive over to Orlando as my husband was driving. I had to make sure that I fill the items, whether it be a bottle or a bowl correctly with the right amount. One container would get more, and the other would get less. I honestly missed on two of them!!  It took dexterity with your fingers!
Long and Short--- this one had to do with two objects, and you would have to pick which ever one they were asking for, the shorter or the longer items! It was fun, too!

The last one was the hardest one for me, Action Months!  In this game, you would have to put the flying letters on the letters for the month, in order to go onto the next month. Whew! I think that a child's little fingers would do well at this one! Me, well----- slow and difficult!!
I definitely enjoyed the experience and opportunity of reviewing the app! It is Measurement, in the iTunes App section!!! And I definitely recommend it!! It's only 99 cents right now!

Disclosure: I was given the free code for the app in order to facilitate my review. The opinions are my own!
